Venient Fx Parathyroid Function and Bone Metabolism Comprehensive
Test Description
Venient Fx Parathyroid Function and Bone Metabolism Comprehensive is a disruptive, non-invasive test that provides comprehensive information on parathyroid function and bone metabolism.
It is based on a routine blood test and it is powered by both proprietary machine learning and public algorithms, and provides highly accurate broad diagnostic information, including the likelihood of having a wide range of parathyroid-related diseases, e.g. hypo- and hyperparathyroidism, osteopenia and osteoporosis, and offers comprehensive information.
It is based on the determination of calcium/phosphate ratio, calcium/magnesium ratio, corrected calcium. It also includes other determinations such as chloride, alkaline phosphatase, vitamin D and creatinine.
It is an Evidence Based Laboratory Medicine (EBML) test developed not only in accordance with the guidelines of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) and the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF), but also incorporating the latest scientific findings.
Screening recommendations
The United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for osteoporosis with bone measurement tests to prevent osteoporotic fractures in women 65 years of age and older.
However, Kience Inc. recommends the Venient Fx Parathyroid Function and Bone Metabolism Comprehensive for patients with symptoms, signs or suspected disease: primary hyperparathyroidism, secondary hyperparathyroidism, tertiary hyperparathyroidism, parathyroid gland cancer, hypercalcemia due to malignancy (HCM), primary hypoparathyroidism, secondary hypoparathyroidism or tertiary hypoparathyroidism, osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Intended Use
The target population for the Venient Fx Parathyroid Function Comprehensive test is patients with symptoms, signs or suspected disease: primary hyperparathyroidism, secondary hyperparathyroidism, tertiary hyperparathyroidism, parathyroid gland cancer, hypercalcemia of malignancy, primary hypoparathyroidism, secondary hypoparathyroidism or tertiary hypoparathyroidism.
Sample Clinical Vignette
A 42-year-old female, with a previous history of total thyroid resection for goiter, presented with numbness in her lips, fingers and toes among with muscle pain, cramps and stiffness. Physical exam revealed normal blood pressure (125/75 mmHg), bradycardia (56 bpm), positive Chvostek and Trousseau signs and hypoactive deep tendon reflexes. Serum is submitted to detect any type of parathyroid-related disease as including the possibility of calcium metabolism-related dysfunction.
Required Laboratory Determinations
